Café Yuluka comes from one of the world’s most breathtakingly beautiful and biologically diverse corners. Reaching heights of almost 19,000 feet, Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is the planet’s tallest coastal mountain range.

Sacred to the Arhuaco Indians, the Sierra Nevada is believed to be the Heart of the World and, consequently, the mountain’s health is seen as crucial to the survival of the entire planet.

Carefully cultivated high on the slopes of the Sierra under the watchful eyes of the Arhuaco Indians, Café Yuluka is the product of sustainable, earth-friendly growing methods that work in harmony with the land and its people.

Yuluka is the Arhuaco word for balance. Governed by a belief system known as the “Law of Mother”, the Arhuaco see it as their mission to keep their native lands – and, therefore, the whole planet – in balance. The Arhuaco treat these lands with a great deal of love and respect, and nothing is ever taken without first being asked for and later replenished. This concept of balance dictates every step of the journey Café Yuluka takes, from the coffee fields to your cup.

The Arhuaco have seen a steady loss of and the destruction of their ancestral lands. By the mid ‘90s, only 15% of the original forest of the Sierra Nevada remained. Deprived of their traditional agricultural lands and prevented from accessing their spiritual sites, the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada are facing the eventual extinction of their way of life.

At Fair share, we are committed to preserving the environment and helping the people of this region. As part of that promise, we are donating 10% of all profits from the sale of Café Yuluka to Gonawindua Tayrona, an organization dedicated to buying back and returning the ancestral lands to the Arhuaco.

Buy Café Yuluka, your purchase will help keep the Sierra in balance.
